Muira is definitely in the high-end section when it comes to buying top rated and bespoke golf clubs, and it isn’t difficult to see why.

But when you pay for quality, you can feel confident that you are getting golf equipment that is going to stand the test of time, and make you feel individual, over my thirty plus years playing golf I can recall only a couple of occasions when I have met a golfer who has been using Muira, and I have felt those big pangs of envy!

So, the luxurious golfing brand Miura, who have been crafting some of the finest golf clubs since the 1950s.
If you want to invest in clubs that are perceived to be a cut above the rest, then Muira is without a doubt one of the first places to look.

In this article, we are going to be taking a closer look at this incredible, high-end Japanese golf equipment manufacturer.

A Little Bit About Miura

In 1957, master craftsman Katsuhiro Miura began creating some of the most bespoke and well-made golf clubs the world had ever seen.

Today, they are iconic, the stuff of legend and golfers in the know all over the world, strive to own a set of these expensive and incredible clubs.

Unlike other manufacturers that mass-produce golf clubs as though they are nothing more than a child’s toy, Miura hand crafts every single club, making it unique in its own way.

That being said, each hand-crafted club must be made using Miura’s scrupulous patented forging process, ensuring that the quality is always a cut above the rest.

While Miura is now working with his two sons, the company continues and golfers who invest in these clubs know that expertise beyond all imagination has gone into their creation.

Miura started the brand because of his desire to create something perfect, with a passion for golf and a passion for perfection, he created his legacy.

The company is based in Japan which is a country known for its discipline and detailed approach to technology and manufacturing.

In the specific location, Himeji, there is a culture of creating Samurai swords so Miura would have grown up learning forging and mastered the techniques that go back thousands of years.

The unique forging process developed by Miura delivers refined and elegant golf clubs that have a unique feel like no other.

Why Is Miura So Good?

It takes a lot to become one of the worlds most well-respected brands in any industry and to get there, you must have a degree of excellence that is unparalleled. This is what makes Miura so much better than other golf club creators.
Of course, the hand crafting process is one of the most important factors to consider. When you receive your new clubs, you can rest safely in the knowledge that they have come from the hands of an expert.

It was more apparent when I was a junior, and golf companies didn’t have computers to design the various golf clubs which are on the market today, but I am still drawn to the mystique of the brand and the fact when they produce their irons it has been completed by someone who has honed his craft over the course of his entire life.

There are no airs and graces here, Miura doesn’t strive to find new ways of doing things or work with innovative technology.

He knows what works and he has stuck to it; proving that his traditional methods that have stood the test of time still produce the best results.

How Much Are Miura Clubs?

With such ornate craftsmanship having gone into each club, it stands to reason that you won’t be picking up a set of clubs for a few hundred quid or dollars.

Conversely, you might need to break into your savings since a set of irons can set you back a few thousand; like these .

However, over the last few years, the other mainstream manufacturers have been raising their prices so these are starting to look more and more appealing.

Do Any Pros Play Miura?

If Miura clubs are so good, surely they must be a favourite for some of the worlds best pro golfers. And you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking this. There are a lot of pros who have chosen the brand for its quality and unique design.

Jack Nicklaus loves the clubs so much that even after a lifetime of trying to come up with his own golf clubs, he decided to team up with Miura and develop a range of clubs with his name on.

This resulted in one of the most notable collaborations in the golfing world and the selection of clubs exudes quality, class and experience.

Jack Nicklaus stated “I’ve spent decades designing golf equipment, and I cherish the painstaking craftsmanship that goes into enhancing the tools of my trade,

Both Miura San and Nicklaus reached the pinnacle of their respective trades.

But who else favours these clubs? Surely Jack is not alone?

Who Plays Miura Irons In The PGA Tour?

In 2020, pro golfer Charl Schwartzel was seen using Miura clubs in the PGA tour.

He was interviewed about his purchase and was more than happy to talk about it.

He told reporters that he has purchased the clubs online and has drilled them to make them a little lighter – putting holes in such an expensive club could make your wallet cringe but the pros know what they need.
However, unlike a lot of other golf club brands, Miura has never entered into a sponsorship deal with any player.

This means that they do not pay players to use their equipment and as such it is difficult to know which players in the PGA are using them.

Does Tiger Woods Play Miura?

Tiger Woods is probably one of the most well-known names in modern golf and even though his reputation precedes him, there is no denying that he is an excellent player.

What makes a good golfer is time, dedication and of course, having the right equipment, although any golfer will tell you that there is always a lot of room for improvement where skill is concerned.

Heck, sometimes, it’s just blind luck!

Tiger Wood has been rumoured to use Miura forged clubs but you will not have noticed since his equipment was apparently stamped with another brand name which is not confirmed.

Nike and Titleist are often seen on his clubs, but there has been speculation over the years that the clubs were actually a creation of Miura with Tiger simply filling his contractual agreements.

Furthermore, it is known that a lot of his clubs and equipment is made specifically for him, they’re one-offs and with each club from Miura being hand-crafted, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch of the imagination to think that Mr Miura would have created a special club for the legend, and that ladies and gentlemen is why I am so intrigued with Miura and the legends and rumours that follow,

Are Miura Clubs Worth The Money?

Any golfer who has used a Miura iron will tell you that they are soft and easy to use.

It is like something of a dream and something that many amateur players will only ever do in a dream.

But let’s face it, you get what you pay for and in our opinion, Miura clubs are definitely worth investing in, as we all know that you do play better when you like the look of your golf clubs.

Miura irons are known to be one of the most durable clubs out there and this means that they will last you a lot longer.

So, yes, you might be parting with more cash to begin with but in the long run, you won’t be spending as much over the years if you are a golfer that likes to keep their equipment longer.

Quality Process of Miura

The quality process of the Miura irons which they have instilled in their processes just cannot be copied.

Each individual iron created is hand crafted, one by one of the clubs is handled and inspected by Miura-San or one of his two sons, Shinei or Yoshitaka.

This is why you will notice the quality, and you should be able to feel the difference, between a Miura golf club and a mass-produced golf club.

What other golf manufacturer ,would you witness the owner sitting in the number one chair grinding the iron heads?

This process is more akin to being an artist over a golf club maker.

What is the material used in Miura Irons ?

The clubs are each made using soft carbon steel and not only is it extremely durable but it is also flexible. The material is S20C, which is a premium carbon steel.

This means that you can bend the club to change the loft, to make it either stonger or weaker to change the flight of the golf ball.

These really are an individual set of golf clubs, with a lot of love and attention honed into each one.

Forging Process of Miura

The Billets of premium S20C Carbon Steel are delivered to the factory, where they are cut to the correct weights of the individual iron heads.

These are then heated to 1200 degrees, there are then set in a die and then hit to form the iron head.

What Miura do differently is to allow the head to cool to deburr the metal.

The head is reheated to a temperature of 800 degrees so the master creators can accurately forge the irons so the weight and density of the clubs can be defined.

Conclusion

In every sport, there is an elite brand that most players aspire to work with and in the case of golf, that is Miura.

This is a high-end, luxury golf club brand that hand makes each one of their clubs from scratch.

There is no big factory, no production line and no gimmicks.

The forgery based in Japan is run by Miura and his two sons who put their blood, sweat and tears into every golf club for a piece of equipment that is unrivalled in our view.

Is it worth splashing out for a set of Miura clubs? Absolutely!

They will last you for many years, and the look on your mates faces when you rock up to the first tee will be priceless.
